
Fred Hower, The Ohio Nurseryman
Fred
is an educator, a certified arborist, and has 40 years of experience
as a horticultural consultant and landscape designer. The author
of over 400 columns in 90 newspapers, Fred also hosts the radio
show, "Plant
Talk," and teaches in the horticulture department at Columbus
State Community College. In addition, Fred serves on a variety
of councils and boards for the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association,
the city of Worthington, Ohio, the Ohio State University Chadwick
Arboretum, Columbus State Community College, and the Columbus Dispatch
Charities Home and Garden Show.
A graduate
of Ohio State University, Fred has a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture.
Fred has received the Meritorious Service Award from the Agriculture
Alumni Association, the first Senior Careerist Award from the Ohio
State University Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, three
Grand Awards for Landscape Design from the Ohio Nursery and Landscape
Association, the Award of Merit from the International Society
of Arboriculture, and a PLAN award for landscape design from the
Junior League of Columbus. Fred has also been active in the Ohio
Nursery and Landscape Association, the Columbus Landscape Association,
the Southwestern Ohio Environmental Horticultural Association,
the International Society of Arboriculture, and is an honorary
member of the Ohio Landscaper's Association.
